Name: Deborah G JENKINS
Title: Dr
Job title: Archival Consultant, Self employed: Urban Legacy Partnership
Organisation (if ICA Institutional membership): /
Country or Territory: United Kingdom
Region represented: Europe and North America
Candidate Statement:
“It would be a pleasure to continue serving archival colleagues and friends within ICA by working on the Programme Commission. As Chair of SLMT, Chair of EURBICA and Secretary of SAHR, I have learned from many colleagues over the years.
PCOM is about leading on international professional practice, supporting colleagues around the world, and ensuring that archive collections, built with integrity, are protected for the future. Parameters for PCOM work should include:
1. Recognizing that one size does not fit all. While PCOM encourages the sharing of experience across the world, there can be different answers to specific archival issues. For example, local legislative contexts mean that solutions to the same problem vary from country to country. Colleagues can face life-threatening situations and environments: priorities vary accordingly
2. Keeping PCOM relevant – from climate change to digital reading rooms, from war damage to post-colonial archival settlements
3. Working with partners such as Archivistes Sans Frontieres, Blue Shield, ICOM and IFLA in dealing with common stumbling blocks
4. Communicating and monitoring the performance of expert groups, sections and branches, ensuring timely delivery
My extensive involvement to ICA and long professional experience, my organisational, drafting and language skills are at your disposal.”
How can you make the voice of ICA regions underrepresented in PCOM heard?
“As Secretary of SAHR, I am aware of a number of active members from the various African branches. I would suggest
1. Inviting a number of these active members to consider a PCOM role by approaching them direct
2. Developing PCOM activities of particular interest to these members (Notably model archival laws and archival law workshops which are very frequently discussed among these members)”
ICA members, please remember to log in to your ICA profile in order to review the candidate CV and letter of support they may have received.
