Candidate Statement:
“I am Grace Temilolu Ikenna, Researcher at the State House Abuja, Nigeria. I am also a Doctoral candidate at the Department of Library, Archival and Information Studies, University of Ibadan, Nigeria. My areas of expertise in the field of Archives, Records and Information Management.
I am an individual member of the ICA from underrepresented regions of Africa and Fellow, Society of Nigerian Archivists, I have worked in various capacities of the SNA since 2017 and for other professional association like the LD4 Linked Data Community. I am the current National Secretary of the SNA (2023-2025), and Steering Committee Member of the LD4 Community (2023-2025).
I am nominating myself for the ICA- Program Commission (PCOM) for the reasons of contributing meaningfully to the advancement of the archival community and profession especially in the Africa regions. I will partner with PCOM, with the knowledge and experience gained previously from other professional associations to achieve more success for ICA.
My recent research output had demonstrated that I have a passion for my profession and contributed to the areas of archives management in multinational organisations in Nigeria and others, including Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums (GLAM).”
How can you make the voice of ICA regions underrepresented in PCOM heard?
“I will propagate the voice of ICA regions underrepresented in PCOM by engaging with expertise in Managing Cyber Infrastructure and Data in Archival institutions in Africa regions and Nigeria in particular. Cyber infrastructure encompasses a broad array of topics, including; data acquisition, storage, management, integration, mining, and visualisation, as well as other computing and information processing services. Cyber infrastructure embraces systems for managing, archiving, preserving, and processing data, including digital archives, and the software and hardware serves as a backup to them. However, not many archival institutions in Africa have considered managing cyber infrastructure and data, in their archives’ systems.”
