“Although I have not worked directly with the International Council on Archives (ICA), my experience as one of the organizers of the Congress of Archivists in Kazakhstan has prepared me well for a role in the Programme Commission (PCOM). This position required me to coordinate various stakeholders, manage logistics, and ensure that the program addressed the needs and interests of diverse participants.
Through this experience, I gained valuable insights into the complexities of organizing professional events, from curating relevant content to facilitating discussions that promote collaboration and knowledge sharing among archivists. I learned the importance of creating an inclusive environment that represents various cultural traditions and perspectives, which closely aligns with the values of PCOM.
I believe I could contribute significantly to PCOM by bringing my organizational skills, passion for professional development, and commitment to engaging new professionals in the field. I am particularly interested in initiatives that enhance training programs and foster connections among archivists across different regions. How can you make the voice of ICA regions underrepresented in PCOM heard?
“To ensure the participation of underrepresented regions in the ICA, the following steps can be taken:
1. Create Mentorship Programs: Connect experienced professionals from ICA with representatives from Africa, the Arab region, and Central Asia for knowledge and experience sharing.
2. Funding for Participation: Provide grants or scholarships to cover expenses for attending ICA conferences and events.
3. Organize Regional Meetings: Host events and workshops in these regions to raise awareness and engagement.
4. Feedback Platforms: Establish channels for regular communication and feedback from professionals in underrepresented areas.
5. Promote Training Programs: Develop courses and webinars tailored to the needs of these regions to enhance the skills of specialists.”
