Candidate Statement:

“My experience in the archival field, particularly as the Director of the Planning and Coordination Division at the National Archives of Malaysia (ANM), has prepared me for a role on ICA PCOM. I have coordinated trainings in records management and governance, focusing on compliance with ISO standards, overseeing strategic planning, and fostering international relations.

Through my leadership as a coordinator in the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Program (MTCP), I have engaged with international participants on critical topics such as records disaster management, digital preservation, and audiovisual archives materials conservation. These experiences have enhanced my understanding of global archival practices and the importance of collaborative efforts.

I also lead disaster preparedness and continuing professional development programs, helping archivists enhance their skills in response to evolving technological trends. Additionally, my involvement in Malaysia’s nominations for the UNESCO Memory of the World program reflects my dedication to promoting our national documentary heritage on a global scale.

I am passionate about outreach initiatives that promote peace and tolerance through archival ethics, which align with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). If selected for PCOM, I aim to contribute to the advancement of archival professionalism and strengthen international collaboration within the archival community.”

How can you make the voice of ICA regions underrepresented in PCOM heard?

“To ensure the voices of underrepresented ICA regions are heard in PCOM, we can implement a quota system that includes representation from each region. This would promote inclusivity and ensure that diverse perspectives are valued. Additionally, PCOM can facilitate mentorship and collaborative projects to help develop skills and foster professionalism. By creating a welcoming environment, we can encourage participation from all regions, allowing members to share their unique challenges and insights. This approach not only amplifies underrepresented voices but also strengthens the global archival community, fostering a more inclusive dialogue within ICA.”
