Candidate Statement:
“Even though i have not taken an official role at ICA, i have been a member of various professional associations over the years. During my studies at the University of British Columbia, I did participate and handle responsibilties as a student for the Association for Canadian Archivisits (ACA) symposium at UBC (ACA@UBC.) I have also attended and participated in several archival conferences throughout one of my previous jobs, mainly in North America, where i used to present and demonstrate archival collections management systems. I can confidently say i have significant years of experience giving trainings in different roles i have handled. In 2014, when i was working at Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art, i also participated in the programming of the Annual Conference of the International Committee for Museums and Collections of Modern Art (CIMAM.) I do beleive that my organization and public speaking skills can swerve well in my contribution to PCOM. Thank you,”
Answer to the “How can you make the voice of ICA regions underrepresented in PCOM heard?” question
“I am fully aware that the archival profession needs to be encouraged and given more attention in certain parts of the world.There is a rich history and ample amounts of archives that need to be protected and processed in underrepresented regions. One of the main things to do is to try and engage more professionals from those regions: Outreach is important in this case to create stronger networks of archivisits who can know each other better and work together. Through PCOM, i think it would be essential to fund and craft educational/training programs that are relevant to professionals in those regions in order to better meet their needs. I also think that supporting and facilitating their participation could increase their presence and representation at ICA.”
