The Expert Group on Legal Matters was asked in the ICA Congress, Abu Dhabi 2023 to produce institutional guidelines on copyright. Whilst there are international treaties and some near-universal copyright principles implemented in national laws, it is not possible to have one set of guidelines for all archival institutions. Accordingly, we have developed a modular structure with generic, mostly international content for customisation either by jurisdictions or individual institutions. It is designed to complement rather than replace existing ICA guidelines on copyright.
Starting in 2025, we shall be working with the Caribbean Branch of ICA to develop and validate this approach. ICA Members desiring further information are welcome to contact the President of EGLM.
