Do you have an idea that could strengthen archives, advance professional practice, or support records management in your region or beyond?

The International Council on Archives (ICA) is pleased to announce the launch of two project funding opportunities for 2027 through the Programme Commission (PCOM) and the Fund for the International Development of Archives (FIDA).

These annual funding programmes support initiatives that contribute to the development of the archival and records management profession, strengthen the global archival community, and advance ICA’s strategic objectives.

The deadline for both funding calls is 18 September 2026.

Find out more below for an overview of both funding opportunities, including their objectives, funding details, and eligibility criteria.

PCOM Call for Projects 2027

The Programme Commission (PCOM) supports projects that contribute to ICA’s professional programme and strategic objectives. Through its annual funding opportunity, PCOM supports initiatives that encourage professional development, knowledge sharing, capacity building, innovation, and the creation of resources for the global archival community. Projects to develop good practice guides are particularly invited.

The 2027 PCOM Call for Projects invites eligible ICA Groups and members to submit proposals for projects that support ICA’s Strategic Plan 2026–2029.

Funding available

PCOM provides funding of up to €5,000 per project for initiatives taking place within one calendar year, from January to December 2027. Projects may include online or onsite events, the development and publication of professional resources, and advocacy activities.

Who can apply?

Applications may be submitted by:

  • An active ICA Group, including Regional Branches, Professional Sections, Forums, Expert Groups, and Working Groups, with projects approved by their members or aligned with their 2027 work plans; or
  • ICA members, or staff members of ICA institutional members registered as right-holders of their institution’s membership.

Applicants must be ICA members in good standing and provide their ICA membership number.

FIDA Call for Projects 2027

The Fund for the International Development of Archives (FIDA) supports projects that contribute to archival development and strengthen the capacity of archives and records professionals around the world.

The FIDA Board of Directors invites ICA members to submit proposals for projects and initiatives planned for 2027. Projects may address a range of activities that support archival development, with a focus on initiatives that align with FIDA’s objectives and contribute to strengthening archival practice.

Funding available

FIDA normally provides a maximum of five grants per year. Each grant will not normally exceed €5,000, with total annual funding not exceeding €25,000. In exceptional cases, projects may be considered for funding of up to €10,000.

Who can apply?

Applicants must be ICA members in good standing, or their parent organisation must be an ICA member in good standing and partner the applicant. Non-members and non-member organisations may participate as partners, provided an ICA member is the project lead.
