Developed in collaboration with ArchiLab from 2021-2025, a research and experimentation laboratory within the Department of Information Science at the Geneva School of Business Administration (HEG Genève), CORAA is more than just a map, it’s a powerful tool for research, collaboration, and discovery. By offering an open-access visual overview of archival repositories, the open map supports education, preservation, and cross-regional networking among archivists, researchers, and institutions across the continent.
CORAA offers an intuitive and interactive map that allows users to explore archival institutions across Africa. You can search for stakeholders, browse institutional profiles, and filter results by country or thematic focus to discover archives relevant to your interests. The map interface and stakeholder submission form are available in English. However, users can view the site in other languages by enabling automatic translation through their browser (e.g., right-click and select your preferred language option). Whether you’re a researcher, archivist, or simply curious, the map provides a dynamic gateway into the continent’s archival ecosystem.
Contribute and Help Grow the Network
If you know of an archival institution that is not yet listed, you can easily add it to the map. Just click on “Add a Stakeholder” at the top of the page—no account is required, though creating one (free and simple with your email) is recommended. Once your submission is reviewed and approved by a moderator, you will receive a confirmation email. As a validated stakeholder, you will also be able to vote on new entries, helping to build a community-driven, sustainable, and inclusive platform.
A Collaborative Effort
CORAA is the result of a multi-year effort under the umbrella of the ICA Africa Programme. The project brought together a committed group of partners, including:
- The innovative team at ArchiLab, in particular, Professor Basma Shabou and her dedicated students and consultants
- PIAF (Programme International Archives Francophones)
- L’École Nationale des Chartes
We also extend special thanks to Forum of Professional Associations (FPA), InterPARES AI, and InterPARES Trust Phase 4 for their support and contributions throughout the development process.
