Archives New Zealand is pleased to announce it has issued a new recordkeeping standard on Digital Recordkeeping, under section 27 of the Public Records Act 2005.

The Digital Recordkeeping Standard (DRS) replaces the Electronic Recordkeeping Systems Standard (ERKSS) – Effective 25/08/2010.
The Digital Recordkeeping Standard establishes principles and good practice requirements for creating and managing records in digital systems, in accordance with the Public Records Act 2005.
The Digital Recordkeeping Standard will be discretionary for public offices and local authorities as defined in the Public Records Act 2005.
The standard incorporates Module One of the ICA requirements (ICA-Req) and a New Zealand context section. Modules Two & Three have been adopted as supporting modules to the standard.
To support the standard, a mapping database has been developed. This database maps how ICA-Req modules 2 and 3 fit within the New Zealand recordkeeping environment and its relationship with Archives New Zealand’s mandatory standards.
