Press release of the International Council on Archives concerning the reclosure of access to the 1940-1970 archives stamped "secret"

Archives are the essential means of understanding history and the decisions and actions taken by governments. Removing access to archives compromises not only research, but also government accountability and transparency.

The ICA fully supports the petition presented by the Association des Archivistes Français and their partners to demand the repeal of measures that impede access to archives marked “secret” from the 1940-1970 period.
