Do you want to contribute your energy and expertise to ICA’s professional programme?Nominate yourself for election to one of the open seats on the ICA Programme Commission (PCOM) and help PCOM serve the ICA membership!
Nominations are open from August 9 to September 8, and elections will be held the last two weeks of September.  Newly elected PCOM members will be invited to participate in the virtual PCOM meeting scheduled for mid-October 2021.
ICA strategic discussions about how to become more transparent, inclusive, and diverse led to a proposal for a new structure for the Programme Commission, or PCOM, based on open nominations and elections rather than an appointments based system.  The proposal, approved by PCOM and endorsed by the Executive Board (EB) in June 2021, will be presented for a vote at the Virtual Extraordinary General Assembly in October 2021.  As PCOM and the EB recommended, we are running a test of the new PCOM elections process to fill two vacant PCOM seats this summer.
These PCOM members will be the first to be elected by the ICA membership at large, based on ballots that provide the candidates’ country, institutional affiliation, expertise, and previous ICA experience.
To provide transparency and promote diversity, we are also providing information about returning PCOM members so that elections can be used to ensure that PCOM reflects the worldwide archives and records profession.

Newly elected members will join and complement ongoing members of the Programme Commission. Current members of PCOM bring expertise in management, strategy, records management, electronic records management, preservation, description and descriptive standards, transparency and access to information; disaster risk reduction, archival education, archival training, research and education in history, emerging technology such as AI and Big Data, and the UNESCO Memory of the World program.

If you are an ICA member and an experienced archives or records professional interested in contributing your energy to ICA, please consider nominating yourself to a seat on PCOM!  We especially encourage those whose participation would help PCOM achieve greater geographic, expertise, or other types of diversity. No previous experience with PCOM is necessary; you can learn more about the existing structure of PCOM and its activities on the web page of the ICA Programme Commission; the News from PCOM  and ICA social media accounts (Twitter and Facebook) provide information about discussions at recent meetings and PCOM initiatives.
Newly elected members will join PCOM for a four-year term and help PCOM transition to its new way of working.  Each person will be responsible for work on behalf of PCOM, either communications with other bodies in ICA, assisting with projects such as reviewing proposals for funding, assisting with the conference or congress, or assisting the New Professionals Programme or expert groups. Members are expected to actively contribute to the work of ICA/PCOM and are expected to dedicate several hours a week to PCOM business when required, although this is not every week. There are two full PCOM meetings each year.
Read more about the proposed new structure for PCOM and the rationale behind the proposal in Flash No.40 October 2020.
