The International Council on Archives (ICA) and Asociación Latinoamericana de Archivos (ALA) have received news about a rise in social protests in several Latin American countries. In Peru, these protests have caused the loss of human lives, which we deeply regret.
In face of this current situation, both organizations have published a joint statement sharing the concern of local organizations and institutions on the impact of this type of social movements in the preservation of the archival heritage in these communities. This statement also supports the actions taken by national archival authorities on behalf of academics, archivists, human rights defenders and the archival community of Ibero-America safeguarding archival holdings.
