International Archives Week #IAW2023

Do you know why 9 June is International Archives Day? 9 June was chosen to commemorate the date ICA was created under the auspices of UNESCO in 1948. This was decided at the 2007 ICA Annual General Meeting, but it wasn’t until 2019 that the ICA expanded the event to an entire week.   

This year, it will be our fifth International Archives Week (#IAW2023) and it will be special: 2023 marks our 75th anniversary. That is why from Monday 5 to Friday 9 June 2023, we will celebrate #75YearsICA of dedicated work to promote the importance of records and archives, and our profession.  

Call for Volunteers: #75YearsICA Instagram Account Takeover

To celebrate our 75th anniversary, the ICA will launch its official Instagram account with an Instagram Takeover campaign! Would you like to participate and become one of our guest collaborators? 

Any member of the ICA can participate (institutional or individual members). We are looking for ICA members willing to share their day-to-day professional activity on this social media platform. We want our followers to get to know different archivists and records management professionals from all seniorities, positions, languages and regions of the world. 

#IAW2023 Webinars

This year, the programme of webinars consists of 5 main sessions that will cover different topics of discussion. On the first day of the week, the ICA will kick off International Archives Week with a special webinar about the impact of social changes on archival work. This event will be a virtual conversation with the ICA Elected Officers about how archival institutions, like many other cultural organizations, are changing the way they do their work.

Media Kit #75YearsICA

Throughout 2023, our social media campaign will focus on #75YearsICA and how we have built a global community of #ArchivesUnited over these last 75 years. To reflect this, we invite our members and extended community to use these hashtags in their preferred social media accounts, and to add photos, testimonies, videos or/and archival documents that present highlights and milestones of their roles (or their institutional roles) as part of this community of #ArchivesUnited. We ask you to think about your posts in the three following categories: major events, leadership, and global presence.

Now that the term of the current President of the Forum of National Archivists (FAN), Jeff James, is coming to an end, a call for nominations has been opened to elect a new President. In close collaboration with the members of the FAN Steering Committee, the FAN President sets the strategic direction of the Forum and ensures its good governance.

Share your Archives and Contribute to the ICA Timeline!

To celebrate our 70th anniversary, we made available to everyone a virtual exhibition presenting the history of the Council from 1948 to 2018 by highlighting not only Founders, Presidents and Secretaries General but also ordinary members’ events and meetings. In 2023, for our 75th anniversary, we would like to expand this timeline to better portray the rich diversity of our membership and our collective achievements since the ICA’s foundation in 1948.
