The ICA Section for Archival Education and Training (SAE) is excited to extend an invitation to all its members to participate in a series of four virtual workshops titled Archival Pedagogies,” scheduled to take place between May and June.

The inaugural workshop, Archives and Disability: Approaches to Education addresses a critical gap in archival discourse and education. Despite constituting the largest minority group globally, the disabled community has long been marginalized within archival theory, practice and education. This workshop underscores the importance of equipping the next generation of archivists with an understanding of disability justice to foster equitable archival practices.

This workshop will:

  • Raise awareness about the historical exclusion of disabled narratives in archival theory and education.
  • Explore various models of disability (medical, social, complex embodied) and their implications for archival practices.
  • Discuss the impact of language and classification in archives on disabled users.
  • Examine the role of archivists in advocating for disability justice within information institutions.
  • Develop strategies for integrating disability justice into archival education.

This session will be facilitated by Alexandra Pucciarelli. Pucciarelli is an archivist and Ph.D. student in the Rutgers School of Communication and Information. She earned a Master’s of Library Science degree with a concentration in Archives and Preservation of Cultural Materials from Queens College, CUNY, as well as a Master’s of Arts in Sociology from the New School for Social Research. Alexandra’s research investigates spectatorship within information spaces, exploring how individuals engage with and perceive information in various contexts.
