The Southeast Asia Regional Branch of the International Council on Archives (SARBICA), in partnership with the University of the Philippines School of Library and Information Studies (UP SLIS), offered an Online Foundational Course in Archives and Records Management for the Southeast Asian Archival Community in August 2022.
The course aimed to provide the participants with the essential knowledge to manage and preserve archival records in the Southeast Asian region. It focused on the core archival concepts, principles and terminologies and set the stage for a deeper understanding of other topics on archival functions and processes that will be covered in a proposed second training phase.
The training was designed for around 50 archives and records management staff from the national archival institutions in Southeast Asia. The trainers were faculty members of UP SLIS as well as guest speakers (archives practitioners from the different national archival institutions in Southeast Asia) who showed examples of how the concepts discussed in the lectures can be applied or operationalised in practice in the context of Southeast Asia. This was also an opportunity for the participants to be more engaged as they could see other examples and experiences coming from different countries in the region.
This project was supported by the International Council on Archives (ICA) through the Programme Commission.
